Banarasi Silk Sarees

Banarasi sarees represent the pride of Varanasi and have been crafted in this region for more than 500 years, originating from the patronage of the Mughal era. These sarees are distinguished by their intricate brocade weaving, elaborate floral and foliate designs, and the incorporation of fine gold and silver zari. The most traditional Banarasi sarees showcase jangla (dense, all-over vine patterns), butidar (small repeating motifs), and tanchoi (subtle tone-on-tone weaves).
Types of Banarasi sarees
There are various sub-types of Banarasi sarees, each possessing unique characteristics. Katan silk represents the purest form — crafted entirely from fine twisted silk threads, resulting in a strong, smooth drape. Organza Banarasi features a sheer, lightweight quality that is perfect for summer festivities. Georgette Banarasi provides a flowing drape. Kora Banarasi has a slightly stiff, textured sensation. At Heritage Drapes we offer Pure Banarasi Silks, Katan Banarasi, Banarasi Organza, Banarasi Georgette, and Banarasi Kora.
