Bandhini is an ancient tie-and-dye method from India, where skilled artisans use their fingernails to pluck tiny points of fabric and secure them with thread to form resist patterns prior to dyeing. A single saree can feature thousands of individually tied dots, resulting in captivating designs such as shikari (geometric grid), leheriya (waves), ekdali (single dot), and chaubasi (four dots). This art form is predominantly practiced by the Khatri community in Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Bandhini sarees are known for their vibrant colors, festive appeal, and significant auspiciousness — red and yellow bandhini sarees are traditionally gifted to new brides within Rajasthani and Gujarati communities. Discover our Bandhini collection at The Saffron House.

Ideal for: Festive occasions, Rajasthani and Gujarati weddings, Navratri, and casual celebrations.

Kanjivaram sarees are often considered the epitome of Indian silk weaves. Crafted by hand in the temple town of Kanchipuram, located in Tamil Nadu, these sarees are produced using pure mulberry silk adorned with genuine gold or silver zari. The unique characteristics that distinguish a Kanjivaram saree include its substantial weight, brilliant lustre, and the special weaving technique in which the body and border are created separately and subsequently interlocked — a process known as korvai.
